orkney one

As part of a long term project, these images are the first of what I hope will be very many from Orkney. My first visit, many years ago, was by plane from Aberdeen involving, if I remember rightly, three attempts at landing in Kirkwall. It was a cold, windy, misty October and I remember the trip with great fondness as we dragged the children around Maes Howe, Ring of Brodgar and the Tomb of the Eagles. I remember wonderful walks on wild and windy beaches, cagouls blown up like balloons as if ready to take off at any minute. Brilliant memories, and my more recent visits have done nothing to diminish the joy I felt of that first holiday there. Still wild, still windy, still incredible peaceful. That reminds me, I must plan my next trip ...
